This week I read about how operating systems work. I wasn’t very familiar with this before hand, so it was good to read up on. For instance, I had no idea that a single, hardwired program is called an embedded system. An embedded system would be found in something like a washing machine or even a refrigerator. Something that doesn’t need an actual operating system to work, something that only provides a set list of functions in order to operate. An operating system manages the hardware and software resources of a system and also provides a stable, consistent way for applications to deal with hardware. Kinda neat.
